How to choose a used laptop in Kerala

A good used business laptop costs far less than a new one and often lasts longer, because it was built for office use. These are the things our technicians check first, and what we suggest you look at before you pay.

Start from what you will do

• Study, online classes and Office: an Intel Core i5 (8th gen or newer) or Ryzen 5 with 8GB RAM is enough.
• Tally, billing and many browser tabs: 8GB RAM is the minimum, 16GB keeps it smooth.
• Photo and video editing: Core i7 / Ryzen 7 with 16GB RAM, and a dedicated graphics card for video.
• Gaming: look for an RTX graphics card first, then the processor.

Processor generation matters more than the name

• A newer Core i5 is usually faster than an older Core i7. Check the generation in the model number (for example i5-8350U is 8th gen).
• For Windows 11, choose Intel 8th gen or newer, or AMD Ryzen 2000 series or newer.

RAM and storage

• Always choose an SSD, not a hard disk. It is the biggest speed difference you will feel.
• 256GB SSD suits study and office work; 512GB if you keep photos, videos or many projects.
• Ask whether RAM can be upgraded later. Many business laptops have a free slot.

Battery, screen and body

• A used laptop battery has some wear. Ask how long it lasts on a normal charge, and test it at the showroom if you can.
• Check the screen for bright spots and lines, and the keyboard and hinges for looseness.
• Full HD (1920×1080) is much clearer than HD (1366×768) for long study or work hours.

Warranty and after-sales

• Keep your bill. Physical, liquid and lightning damage is not covered by any warranty.
